For gluing always use a flexible, paste-like glue such as silicone. Do not use water-based adhesives, as water can stretch the cane webbing. Because these sheets are made from the interior of rattan, it can be easily painted or stained. It can be easily handled with any type of stain, varnish, or paint. The strands on the surface do not always absorb the stain evenly, so a rustic, mosaic finish may result. If a completely even tone is desired, apply a filling primer before staining (e.g. from Milesi). It is recommended to use solvent-based stains and paints as water-based products can cause the material to stretch and blister or deform.
