Furniture renovation, especially the restoration of a Biedermeier cabinet, is an activity that requires great expertise, dexterity and practice, it is a real old-fashioned carpentry job. Fortunately, it is now easy to do with the use of prefabricated wooden appliques and wooden decorative elements. Even as a hobby carpenter, you can boldly engage in the mentioned works. You just have to choose and combine decorations with good sense, and the end result will definitely be something that people only praise. How does the application of the woo panel moulding take place?
Surface preparation is key during restoration! First of all, the furniture should be disassembled. In this way, all workpieces are easier to access later.
If you decide on a complete renovation, it is worth sanding the entire surface of the object down to the wood. First with coarser and then increasingly finer grit sanding tools. For quick and less tiring work, we recommend the use of eccentric sanders or vibrating sanders. There will probably be some details left on the surface that can only be solved by manual sanding. In this case, it is worth purchasing a high-quality sanding cloth and sanding sponge.
Even in the case of furniture decoration, it is worthwhile to sponge all the details of the product. In this way, small errors left over from production can be easily removed.
Gluing can follow: Fortunately, this work phase does not require many tools either. All you need is wood glue (D2, D3) and weights or a clamp.
Apply glue thinly but evenly to both surfaces. After that, we position the carving in the desired place. Press down while drying. Carefully wipe off the small adhesive drops that appear as a result of suctioning with a slightly damp cloth. Although the glue dries transparent, it is difficult to remove once it hardens. Also, the paint and varnish may not stay on the material, so the coverage will not be complete.
Surface treatment!
Although many people are afraid of it, this work phase is not complicated either. After choosing the right raw materials, only care and dexterity are required. The use of paintable, varnish, oil and varnish can also bring beautiful results.
However, for passionate amateurs, we recommend the combination of glaze and satin lacquer. When using these, you only have to pay attention to apply them in a nice, thin, even layer on the surface. To achieve the desired effect, it is worth working in 2-3 thin layers.
