Wood carving for furniture renovation
The VK-370 wooden wall decoration with acanthus leaf pattern is made of exotic wood that is harder than pine, but softer than beech. We sell it with an untreated surface, meaning you can freely decide on the treatment, which makes the crown molding easily adjustable to its desired environment.
It is originally a column head closing element, but it also makes a pretty door decoration. Look no further if you plan to restore antique furniture or to decorate your home. These wooden corbels also work great as crown mouldings or capital mouldings, lending an elegant antique feel to their surroundings with their resemblance to greek columns.
What is exotic wood?
It's actually rubber tree from which they get caoutchouc. It can be painted and stained just like any other European wood. It is harder than pine, but softer than beech. According to its fiber structure and color, it is between beech and oak.
What should I use for surface treatment?
The surface treatment of the product can be solved in several ways. Glaze, oil or varnish can all prove to be an excellent choice. With each process, you can achieve a different effect, highlighting the virtues of the wooden decorative elements according to your vision and environmental characteristics. Since the carvings are made of exotic wood, it is inevitable that there will be some wood defects. This can be easily remedied with a wood patch.
Wood patch! But how?
It is quite easy to use wood putty or plaster. Simply work the material into the wood defects with a suitable spoon or spatula. After drying, all we have to do is sand the dried material flat with the surface.
Carving acanthus leaves for decorating has been a common practice since ancient times. The Greek capitals made in this period received decorations that are still known today, such as the acanthus leaf on the closing element of the Corinthian capital. In Europe, the acanthus was popularly used as a motif in the first millennium, based on an antique pattern. Book painting used it very often, and antique forms and motifs spread with book printing. In the following centuries, the acanthus leaf was especially favored by the Baroque.
