What is exotic wood?
All wooden carvings made of exotic wood are actually made from the wood of the rubber tree, from which caouthouc is obtained. It can be painted and stained just like any other European wood. Itis harder than pine, softer than beech. According to its fiber structure and color, it is between beech and oak.

In Europe, the acanthus was popularly used as a motif in the first millennium, based on an antique pattern. Book painting used it very often, and antique forms and motifs spread with book printing. In the following centuries, the acanthus leaf was especially favored by the Baroque.
