Wooden rossette with carved wooden flowers

The RK-729 wooden carvings combine the classic rossette and wood corner molding functions in the form of a symmetrical carved wooden flower. It is perfect for refurbish furniture as a decoration for door and drawer fronts, cabinet panels, or wood corner molding. As the carved wooden flower is a popular and subtle element, we highly recommend it for decorating any indoor furniture.

Technical details of the wooden carving

The dimensions of the wooden rossette: width is between 4 cm and 5 cm, height ranges from 4 cm to 5 cm, thickness is from 0.7 cm to 0.8 cm; it is available in several sizes. It is round in shape with a central flower motif. This decoration is made from exotic (rubber) wood. Rubber wood has ecological benefits, as it is made as a by-product of rubber plantations, making it a recycled material. Because of its light and natural color, it provides a neutral base for all surface finishing methods— from painting to stains and wax. It is an excellent raw material for fine woodworking. This product is unfinished.

Wooden carvings for refurbish furniture at home

The decoration is ready to use upon arrival as it is sanded before packaging and can be applied instantly to the desired surface. Our products are favored not only by fine woodworking professionals but also easily used by hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts. Since the product is available in a natural state, it can be adjusted to the final color of the furniture during refurbish furniture with the chosen surface finishing method (painting / oiling / staining).

What can this carved wooden flower be used for?

These wooden carvings are mainly recommended for decorating commodes, display cabinets, and wardrobes during furniture making, but they are also excellent as wood corner molding for window frames. Additionally, these carvings can be used as custom interior door ornaments or glued on walls. Moreover, for smaller DIY projects, this rossette can be used to decorate tea boxes, storage units, or chests.

Preparing the receiving surface for the rossette before use

When refurbishing, surface preparation is essential. First, it is advisable to disassemble the furniture so all parts can be accessed more easily later. If you decide on a complete refurbishment, sand the entire surface down to the wood, starting with a coarse and then finer grit sandpaper. Any small details left on the surface that require hand sanding can be removed with high-quality sanding cloth or sponge. After this, the wooden carvings or wood corner molding chosen for the project should be mounted onto the properly prepared surface.

How can you glue carved wooden flowers?

According to the previous instructions, preparing the receiving surface is important. Since our decorations are shipped pre-sanded, there is no need to sand them again before application. The next step is to apply a thin layer of wood glue to both the receiving surface and the back of the decoration, then press it into place. While drying—usually about 24 hours—clamp or press the two surfaces together; using a clamp or some weight is recommended. If you are attaching the carving to a non-wood surface, it is recommended to use contact adhesive or fix the piece with small-headed nails.

What should you pay attention while applying surface treatment

It is important to ensure the surface is always clean and dust-free before you begin working. Before staining, coat the surface of the decoration with a filler primer (Milesi) to fill the fibers cut during carving (optional—for a more uniform finish). For enthusiastic amateurs, the combination of stains and satin varnish is most recommended. When using these, just make sure to apply the finishing material in a thin, even layer. For the best result, it is advisable to apply two or three thin coats.

The meaning of carved wooden flowers

The flower shape is a geometric decoration that appeared as early as ancient Greek and Roman ornamentation. The flower motif symbolizes the harmony of nature and was often used on church as well as aristocratic furniture. During the Baroque and Classical periods, fine woodworking masters regularly used rossette-shaped wooden carvings as central decorations on cabinets and commodes. Combined with the wood corner molding function, the rossette is still a popular choice in furniture restoration, as it ensures a balanced, symmetrical appearance.
