What is the purpose of a rossette and why is it useful?

The RK-767 wooden carving is well suited for furniture making when the goal is to achieve a decorative yet clean look. The floral motif is a universal design that suits both classic and modern interiors. The RK-767 can be used for both small and large pieces of furniture, such as cabinet doors, chests of drawers, mirror frames, or as an accessory to decorative boxes. It is available in several sizes so that it fits proportionally to different pieces of furniture.

How can the wooden onlay be glued and fixed?

The wooden onlay can be attached using wood glue (D2 or D3), which should be thinly spread on the surface. While the ornament dries, clamp or weight the pieces together, which may take up to 24 hours. However, if gluing is not the solution, you can also fix the carving with small brads or wire nails. It is recommended to countersink the nail heads and repair them with wood filler to keep the surface uniform.

How can the surface be treated?

The ornament is made from natural exotic wood, so you can choose any surface treatment you like. The wood can be painted, varnished, stained, oiled, or treated with wood glaze. When staining, it is advisable to brush the ornament with a filler primer (Milesi) to fill the cut fibers and achieve even coloring. It is always recommended to dust off the rossette before any process. According to cabinetmaker practice, it is best to apply the surface treatment in two thin layers to achieve a durable and even coat.

How to prepare and fit the wooden onlay?

Before gluing, it is worth dry-fitting the decorative element onto the designated surface to ensure an exact fit. For larger wooden carvings, it is recommended to finely adjust the corners and edges to make sure any fitting flaws do not remain visible. In cabinetmaker work it is common to arrange several elements next to each other, forming a complete pattern. Wood filler can be used at the joints of wooden onlays, and after drying, it can be sanded and painted. This method ensures that the finished surface remains even and homogeneous.

History of the rossette motif

The rossette is one of the oldest decorative elements, already present in the ornamentation of ancient Greek temples and Roman buildings. In the form of a flower, it symbolized the harmony of nature, which is why it was also popular during the Middle Ages and Renaissance on furniture and ceiling decorations. Cabinetmaker masters often used the rossette pattern as a closure on pediments and door frames. In Classical style, the onlay elements held a central decorative role, and today, due to the timelessness of the form, they are also popular in modern interior design.
