History of the Cesca chair covered with cane webbing

Marcel Breuer, one of the icons of modern furniture design, continued the spirit of Bauhaus in his works. The Cesca chair was born in the 1920s, representing the perfect balance of simplicity, functionality and aesthetics. The stylish appearance and comfortable design of the chair make it highly popular even today. When refurbishing a Cesca chair with cane webbing, preserving the original weave structure is important. Consulting a professional is recommended to maintain the historical and aesthetic value of the chair.

Can rattan caning be colored?

Yes, rattan caning can be colored, but it is quite difficult, so there are a few things to remember. This material resists absorbing dye or stain on its glossy front side. The best result can be achieved with a solvent-based varnish mixed with dye, such as shellac. Always conduct a spot test on a small section before treating the entire surface. After drying, ensure the paint adheres firmly or check if it can be wiped off.
