Material: rattan sheets made from rattan palm bark. Pattern: octagonal, density 2 holes per inch. Width: 45 cm, with weaving threads extending at least 2 cm beyond the nominal width on each side. Roll length: 15.24 m (50 feet). Quality: S (superior) premium, strength: suitable for chair caning. This product can be purchased as rattan panels by the meter.
If you have chosen the “S” superior quality thonet chair caning, soak it in cold water for 15-30 minutes to make it more manageable. This softens the cane webbing, prevents breakage, and makes it easier to work with. Do NOT soak in regular tap water! Use DISTILLED or DEIONIZED water. If you use tap water, the chair caning material may discolor. If soaked in distilled or deionized water, the cane webbing will not discolor during soaking.

Yes, rattan caning can be colored, but it is quite difficult, so there are a few things to remember. This material resists absorbing dye or stain on its glossy front side. The best result can be achieved with a solvent-based varnish mixed with dye, such as shellac. Always conduct a spot test on a small section before treating the entire surface. After drying, ensure the paint adheres firmly or check if it can be wiped off.
