The wood carving's dimensions: width: 50 cm; height: 13 cm; thickness: 1.1 cm. The tympanum-shaped ornament features an escutcheon, a pomegranate pattern, and vegetal decorations. The wooden carving is made of exotic wood. This sustainable wood material comes from the secondary use of rubberwood, making it an excellent choice from an environmental perspective. How to glue wooden carvings?

No special skills or tools are required to glue wood carvings! First, sand the receiving surface, then thoroughly remove any dust. Next, apply a thin, even layer of wood glue to both surfaces. Precisely fit the two surfaces together, and wipe away any excess glue that seeps out with a damp cloth. Then use a clamp or press to keep them in place and let the glue dry. It is advisable to wait for full drying, which usually takes 24 hours.

What surface treatment is recommended for wooden carvings?

The wooden carvings in our collection are pre-sanded and natural, so they readily accept any covering layer. A door decorated with carvings adds character to a space, so any tympanum makes the interior unique and elegant. Before surface treatment, it is advisable to make sure the surface is free from dust and grease. Varnishing, staining, oiling, and waxing can highlight the grain pattern of the wood. Escutcheon motif – a look back at history

The use of the escutcheon motif in furniture decoration goes back a long way, especially in noble, bourgeois, and church-related furniture. On Baroque and Renaissance furniture, detailed escutcheon depictions following heraldic rules can be observed. On bourgeois and noble furniture, stylized, decorative shield forms often appeared. The escutcheon ornament was not only decorative but also a visual expression of the owner's identity.

Pomegranate pattern as a furniture ornament

The pomegranate pattern in furniture decoration was primarily a symbol of fertility, abundance, and the renewal of life. It was often used on Renaissance and Baroque furniture in carved or inlaid form, on door fronts and chests. The pomegranate pattern could appear in a stylized or natural form, complemented by leaves and tendrils. Due to its religious meaning, it was also found on church furniture, where the pomegranate signified Christ's sacrifice and eternal life. In folk furniture making, it appeared less frequently, mainly as a painted decorative element.
