The floral pattern is decorated with a french lily. Its material is exotic (rubber) wood. Rubber wood is a sustainable wood material, as it comes from the secondary use of rubber plantations, making it an excellent choice from an environmental perspective. Its light, homogenous color and even grain make it ideal for making detailed decorations and it is compatible with all types of surface treatments. This ornament is not surface treated.

How to attach carved wooden ornaments?
For attaching wood carvings, we recommend using wood glue. As a first step, sand the receiving surface and remove any dust. Apply a thin, even layer of wood glue to both surfaces, then carefully join the pieces together. During drying, press them together with a carpenter's clamp or weight. If excess glue seeps out at the sides, wipe it off with a damp cloth before it dries.
What to do if you cannot use glue?
If gluing is not suitable for some reason, mechanical attaching of the carving is also possible. For this task, small brads or wire nails are recommended, as they are less visible and do not damage the wood. It is important to insert the nails into pre-drilled holes to prevent the wood from cracking. The nail heads should be sunk below the wood surface, so the surface can later be aesthetically filled and covered with wood filler. This method provides a secure and lasting way to fix the ornament.
How to finish carved wooden ornaments?
Our wood carvings are distributed untreated and pre-sanded, giving you complete freedom for creative implementation. You may paint, varnish, stain, oil, or even cover the carved surfaces with gold leaf so they match the furniture style. A layer of varnish provides lasting protection against wear, for example. When painting or staining, it is advisable to carry out filling priming (e.g. Milesi), after which the cut fibers fill up and are colored evenly with the rest of the ornament. Painting hides the grain of the wood, while other treatments nicely preserve its pattern.

The bourbon lilie, also known as the fleur de lis, is one of the most renowned motifs in Western European heraldry. Already in the Middle Ages, it appeared in the coats of arms of France’s royal houses, including the Anjou and Bourbon dynasties. The french lily symbolizes purity, dignity, and loyalty; it was therefore often used on ecclesiastical furniture and royal furnishings. Cabinetmaker masters adopted this motif during the 18th and 19th centuries, especially in baroque and classicist carving decorations. The fleur de lis remains a frequently used ornament today, as it harmoniously fits both classic and modern furniture.
