The bamboo roller shades efficiently filter the light, and their natural material gives a calm, environment-friendly appearance. Rapidly renewable bamboo is an eco-friendly solution and offers a natural surface as privacy blinds for balconies. The advantage of the semi-finished design is that standard roll up bamboo blinds sizes fit common window and door dimensions, making it easy to find the right size. They can be used indoors without treatment, but for outdoor use, oil or stain treatment is recommended. These privacy blinds prevent unwanted views, but still let in some natural light, so the room doesn’t become dark. They are made from a material that is lightweight yet strong. If drilling is not possible – for example, on window frames – the separately available ROLKA fitting is a great solution.
Thin wood stain penetrates deeply into the bamboo, does not create a cracking surface, and helps slow wear and discoloration. Generally, it’s recommended to refresh the stained surface every 2–3 years. In locations exposed to intense sunlight, protection diminishes more quickly, so more frequent treatment may be needed. Staining currently offers the strongest available protection against water, UV radiation, and moisture.
Oil also penetrates deeply into the bamboo slats, maintains the material’s flexibility, and reduces the risk of damage from moisture and sunlight. For long-lasting protection, re-oiling is recommended every 2–3 years, or more frequently with intensive use. Oiling provides strong protection against UV rays and moderate resistance to water and mildew.
Surface finishing must only be carried out on clean, completely dry bamboo roller shades, as moisture reduces absorption efficacy. Lacquering is not recommended, as it creates a surface that will develop microcracks over time.
As a sunshade, waterproof outdoor bamboo blinds reduce incoming light and UV exposure, helping protect outdoor flooring and furniture from fading. When used as balcony privacy blinds, these provide shade and help reduce heat buildup. On vertical surfaces, this product effectively filters intense light coming from above at an angle. Thanks to oil or stain treatment, these roll up bamboo blinds have increased resistance to rain and strong sunlight.
Maintaining indoor bamboo blinds is easy: just occasionally dust them off. We offer a 5-year warranty on the mechanism. We provide a video guide for replacing the pull cord. For outdoor use (for example, as privacy blinds on balconies), the material should be treated with oil or thin stain, and this should be repeated every 2–3 years, or more often if exposed to strong sunlight. The blinds should only be raised when completely dry; lacquering is not recommended.
You can choose from several roll up bamboo blinds sizes. If, for example, you choose bamboo blinds 150cm wide and 200cm long, consider from which material you want it: If you want to reduce the light entering a terrace or balcony, choose a denser, stronger filtering roll up bamboo blinds, such as a BC30 blind. If you prefer a pleasant, semi-shaded effect, it is recommended to choose a looser woven bamboo roller shades, such as BC09.
The ROLKA fitting is well suited for mounting the blinds to the window frame. Installation only requires a screwdriver. The fitting should be placed on the upper edge of the window or glued to the surface, regardless of bamboo blinds sizes.
For both indoor and outdoor bamboo blinds, a basic installation kit is always included, containing wood-free hooks, plastic plugs, and the metal component for attaching the cord.
