Bamboo blinds provide excellent shading, and their natural material creates a calm and harmonious atmosphere that blends into the environment. Rapidly renewable bamboo is an eco-friendly solution, offering a uniform, natural surface even outdoors. The semi-finished design ensures that standard bamboo roller shade sizes fit the most common window and door dimensions, making it easy to find the right size. Indoors, these can be used without surface treatment, while for outdoor bamboo blinds oiling or a light glaze is recommended. No drill roller blinds installation is also possible with this mechanism type. They are made from a lightweight yet robust material held together by UV-resistant cotton threads. A bamboo blind, matching door and window sizes, can be installed without drilling with the separately available ROLKA accessory.
The BC30 bamboo blind material woven with cotton thread, decorative on both sides. Color: brown (carbonized). Roller width: bamboo blinds 90cm wide. Length: 120 / 150 / 200 cm. 1G type mechanism equipped with a brake. Without surface treatment, we recommend this only for indoor use.
All the accessories needed for installation are included. The hooks and screws for fastening rattan blinds UK are presented in this short video. If you'd like to use them as no drill roller blinds for a window frame, the separately purchasable ROLKA hardware also offers a reliable solution.
The light glaze penetrates the structure of bamboo sticks, doesn't create a cracking layer, and helps slow down material wear and discoloration. Depending on the size of the bamboo roller shades, wear may vary, but generally it is recommended to refresh the glazed surface every 2–3 years. If the balcony awning is placed on a terrace or balcony and is exposed to strong sunlight, the protection may decrease faster. It also protects against persistent or frequent exposure to water or humidity. Do not roll up the shade while wet, as this leads to mildew.
Wood oil penetrates deeply into bamboo rods, preserves their flexibility, and reduces the risk of damage from moisture and sunlight. To maintain its protective effect, oiling should be repeated every 2–3 years. It provides lasting protection only against moisture and humidity, but does not protect the surface from direct water exposure.
Wood oil or glaze should only be applied to a completely dry surface, as moisture impairs both absorption and drying quality. Lacquering is not recommended for outdoor use, as it forms a surface that quickly develops microcracks.
It reduces incoming sunlight and moderates the effect of UV rays, helping protect outdoor flooring and furniture from fading. It helps lower thermal load, creating a cooler environment on your terrace or balcony. On vertical surfaces, it effectively filters intense light coming in at an angle from above. Surface treatment makes it more resistant to rain and intense sunlight.
For indoor use, bamboo blinds UK can be cleaned by periodic dusting. The operating mechanism comes with a 5-year warranty, and a video guide assists with the cord replacement. For outdoor use, it is advisable to treat the shade with wood oil or light glaze, refreshing it every 2–3 years. Raise the shade only when it is completely dry. Lacquering is not recommended, as it forms a surface that soon develops microcracks. Important warning: strong winds can damage the lowered shade, so always raise it in windy or stormy conditions!
Standard blinds are made in predetermined sizes, allowing you to select from these options. If custom sizing is needed, nearly any length can be achieved, subject to a few technical limitations. The maximum width is 240 cm, determined by the raw material roll size. With a 1G mechanism, the maximum length is 2.5 m, while with other mechanisms it can reach 4 m. Bamboo blinds 90cm wide by 240cm long are also available.
Among the pre-manufactured blinds, there are also second-class pieces at a more favorable price. Minor flaws may appear in these, such as a height difference of up to 2 cm per meter, slight rod twisting, or less uniform color. One or at most two of the above-mentioned flaws can be present in a single product. Second-class rattan blinds UK are also suitable for outdoor use if properly oiled or glazed. This product may also be known as bamboo roller shades ikea.
