As it is a rapidly renewable resource, it offers an eco-friendly and sustainable solution. It is widely used because it is flexible and durable. Watch our video about the uses of rattan sheets!

Uses of cane webbing rolls

Rattan cane webbing is an extremely versatile material, used for furniture restoration and for making new elements. It is ideal for chair backs, headboards, rattan wardrobe doors, rattan lampshades, and rattan panels. It can even be made into decorative radiator covers. Its natural texture brings warmth and uniqueness to any interior. Thanks to its perforated structure, rattan cane webbing is ideal as rattan radiator covers, as it does not reduce the heating efficiency. In addition, it aesthetically hides the radiator and gives a stylish appearance to your living space.

Cane webbing roll as rattan panel

Room divider panels made from cane webbing visually separate the spaces. At the same time, they do not block off the areas completely, maintaining an open and airy feeling. This solution is especially popular in minimalist and modern style homes. Additionally, this cane webbing works perfectly as rattan wardrobe doors, most frequently built into wardrobes and chest doors. Since it is easy to handle and shape, these qualities make it suitable for creating rattan lampshades of various designs.

How can rattan sheets be fixed into a wooden frame?

It depends on the use: for chair backs, the most common method is pressing it into a groove and securing it with a wedge. As this material is mostly purchased for decorative purposes, the staple gun method is preferred for rattan wardrobe doors and rattan panels. Attention, proper preparation of the material is essential! Before installation, soak the material in cold water for 15-30 minutes. This will soften it, allow slight stretching, make it flexible and easier to handle, which simplifies tensioning and fitting into the frame. In case of gluing into a groove, until the glue cures, do not let the webbing dry out—keep a damp cloth on it. During drying, it regains its original size and becomes taut.

How to finish a cane webbing roll surface?

Please note, the shiny outer side of rattan shell-based material absorbs paint and stain with difficulty. It is always recommended to test paint a small piece first. The best result can be achieved by using a tint mixed into a solvent-based lacquer (for example, shellac or beisen). Solvent-based lacquers are recommended over water-based ones, as water-based lacquers may cause the material to stretch. After drying, check that the finishing product truly cannot be wiped off from the surface.
